Green Lane Eco Park and the Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan Document

In a recent report from the inspector of the Greater Manchester Join Waste Development Plan Document, the inspector states that it would be premature to include the former Mitchell Shackleton site (the site for the proposed Green Lane Eco Park) in the Waste Plan as this could prevent other types of employment development being considered for the land.

However, it is important to note that the inspector recognised that the most likely use of the site will be for employment (as it is not considered currently suitable for housing development by Salford City Council) and that waste development would fit this category as jobs would be provided. If planning permission is granted, Green Lane Eco Park would directly employ c. 60 people and would represent a £70M investment in the local area.

The suitability of the site for waste management will be tested through the forthcoming appeal which Sky Properties is making following the decision by Salford City Council to refuse planning permission despite the officers' report recommending that Councillors should approve the scheme.
